The emerald green forest of the north lay in silence that was soon to be broken; a small ranger band was visiting. A ranger alone was rare in this part of the forest, so a band was almost unheard of. There where hardly any bands to begin with but this was the most famous. They had no name for their group of four, and no one, besides themselves knew their names. Of course a story cannot be told well if none of the characters have names, so they will be told. The eldest was called Sade; he was oldest by some years though how many is not really known. His build was similar to that of a man of this time, he had striking red-orange hair that hung down to his chin, a thick beard and mustache, and deep dark eyes. Sade had a colorful family history being of high birth. The second of our characters was the half gnome, Stee Badger, more commonly called Cloak. Being a half gnome he lacked Sade’s height but was not to short standing a little over fire feet. He had stunning black hair and cheery blue eyes. Cloak was by far the most cheery of the four. Then there was Dontay the half elf. He had simple brown hair and classic elf green eyes, he kept his hair long and braided, giving him the nickname pretty boy. Unlike is friend Arrow he bore more elven looks, and had even been mistaken for an elf a few times in town, much to his friends delight, other than Arrow that is. Arrow knew how it felt. The fourth character, as we have heard was, called Arrow. No one knew his real name, that is who was alive. Arrow was also a half elf yet looked more like a man. He had the same hair and eyes of his friend, Dontay, but it was not as well kept.
The four where now in a relatively new par to the forest, talking a bit loudly for rangers. “Well,” spoke the calm voice of Arrow, “Where are we?”
“In the south eastern area,” replied the assertive, commanding voice of Sade.
“Oh wonderful at least we know we’re lost,” Arrow spat. Dontay and Cloak exchanged looks, Arrow and Sade where fighting yet again, had those two been kings they would be at war constantly. “We’re not lost yet,” Sade snapped back heatedly, “And we can always backtrack.” Dontay and Cloak took a seat; Cloak removed two dice from his pocket and three gold coins. Dontay put up two. ‘You cant backtrack if your lost,” Arrow emphasized. “We’re not lost,” Sade snapped, “If we head south we can find a city and be unlost.”
Arrow smiled a crooked smile, “How can we become unlost if we’re no lost to start with? I know you know all the cities.”
“I…You…” Sade stammered before showing his rage, “Boy I would stop and apologize at the very least! I should tan your worthless hide!”
“You’d have to catch me first.”
“Conceded fool,” Sade barked back.
Dontay and Cloak both paused and watched a bit before going back to their game. This argument was quite long for a change, though most where lengthy rarely did they last and hour and a half. When it final ended Dontay had won 10 or so gold coins, and it was time for camp to be broke. Arrow and Sade refused to speak so Dontay and Cloak had to set up camp alone. Sade left to find water, and Arrow to find firewood, this left Cloak and Dontay alone. Quickly a discussion was started. “I cant belive they’re fighting again, and this long,” Cloak said shaking his head.
“Oh give them ten minute and they’ll be fine,” Dontay replied, “Their both very umm high strung. Only one can ever be right.”
Cloak nodded and sat down; Dontay momentarily joined him. They chatted a bit, mostly about the past day, and the animal’s antics. After a bit Arrow entered camp with four horses and a wolf dog. The horses varied greatly, the smallest was a small bay-brown pony with a blue-grey muzzle, legs, and eyebrows. He had a think bushy mane and tail of brown-black. He was Cloak’s horse, Flute. Then there where two twins though they where very different. One was like Flute and pretty happy go lucky (though not to the same extent) he was a golden palomino with a white start that resembled the sun and a white horse figure under it. This was Sunchaser, Dontay’s mount. His twin was a jet-black charger, not a white mark on him; he was dubbed Nightshade and was Arrow’s mount. The tallest was Sade’s draft cross, Eclipse. The stallion was might and a deep red bay in color with white splashes all about him. On his legs black could be seen in small patches. The wolf was called Ranger Bane or just Ranger; he was a salt and pepper in color. “We’re heading home in the morning,” where the first words out of Arrow’s mouth. Booth Cloak and Dontay nodded, the former was lighting a cooking fire. Sade then returned with water. Dontay relived some of the foodstuffs and began to cook what he could. As he finished Cloak brought a bit of bread and cheese out and split it among the four. They ate silently of meal of hare, cheese, bread, and water. As soon as they finished their meal they lay down to rest, their fire already out.
