To start this off you do NOT have to play an Aiel because I will almost promise that if everyone had to 95% of ya would be at least slightly confused, even if I do explain it well. You may play a normal person(Wetlander) who meets the Aiel.
Basicaly the Aiel have began to come out of the waste and no one knows why, yet...
Okay to start explaining:
Aiel: People of the Aiel waste. Firce and hardy. Veil their faces before they kill, giving the rise to the saying "acting like a black-veiled Aiel" to describe someone being violent. Deadly warriors with weapons or with bare hands, they will not touch a sword. Their pipers play them into battle with the music of dances. Aiel call battle "the dance" and "the dace of spears"
Clans, Septs, and Warrior Societies
The Aiel are feirce warriors who live in a desert called the Aiel Waste. They belong to clans, septs, and if they are fighters, societies.
Clans are basicaly that, the group you belong to. They often hold grudes against each others(called Blood fueds). When they travle ut of the waste in a comman goal though all clans take a Water Oath, which means they will not attack each other. A list of clans is provied below.
Septs are like villages and are said after the clan you are from(ie. Naerm clan of Taardad sept of Nine Valleys).
Warrior Societies are what all warriors belong to. Each has its own customs and some have their own dutties.
Clans and Septs have a certain way they must be. If you are from clan Nakai there are only three differnt septs you can be from so I will post the link of the clans and their spets: photeus.com:8008/ewot/organizations/aiel/index.html
There are 12 Warrior sociteties:
1. Black Eyes (Seia Doon)
2. Brothers of the Eagle (Far Aldazar Din)
3. Dawn Runners (Rahien Sorei)
4. Knife Hands (Sovin Nai)
5. Maidens of the Spear (Far Dareis Mai)-women only, they have a secret hand talk, will not marry, and if they have a child msut give it away
6. Mountain Dancers (Hama N'dore)
7. Night Spears (Cor Darei)
8. Red Shields (Aethan Dor)-act as police.
9. Stone Dogs (Shae'en M'taal)-never retreat
10. Thunder Walkers (Sha'mad Conde)
11. True Bloods (Tain Shari)
12. Water Seekers (Duadhe Mahdi'in)
Wise Ones and Clan Cheifs
Each Aiel Clan is headed by Chiefs. To become a clan chief, a man must go into Rhuidean, a sacred city deep in a valley in the waste, where they are told the history of the Aiel. If he can withstand the test of the truth, they were named clan chief.*
Wise Ones also must go into Rhuidean. Wise Ones are mostly Aiel women who can channel(use magic to control earth, water, air, fire, and spirt). There are a few who cannot. Wise Ones have great authority and influence over the clan chiefs and carry great responsibilty. They cannot be taken in battle, and may not be harmed in any way. Wise Ones can only drink water.
Ji'e'Toh and Gai'Shain
Okay this may(and probably will) confuse some people. I'll try to do my best and explain it. Ji'e'Toh means honor and obligation/duty
"In the dance of spears, the most ji is earned by touching an armed enemy without killing, or harming in any way(because it is difficult and seldom done) the smallest honor comes from killing. In between is taking a captive(its more complicated this is a simplifed version). Gai'shain are captives taken so, though a warrior who has been touched may sometimes demand to be taken gai'shain to reduce his enemy's honor and his/her own loss. Some of the people who can not be taken as gai'shain are Wise Ones, a blacksmith, a child(under 15), a woman with child or one who has a child under the age of ten. A gai'shain has toh to his/her captor. For gai'shain this is to serve one year and a day, obeying humbly, touching no weapon, doing no violence. Rarly do they try to escape and if they do they would be returned and sometimes frist-brothers or frist-sisters will also become gai'shain to reduce the loss of ji."
Hopefuly that made some sence. I can try to explain it if you want some more, or you can just play as a Wetlander.
Terms,Sayings, and General Things to Know
