Mists of Lioriancanthe
Once upon a time, in a land far away... no, not that far away- across the pond, past the trees, through the mists, more like. Anyways, there existed a kingdom of great status. It was far from an empire- moderately sized, enough so that all the inhabitants could live comfortably. A veritable palace lay in the foothills, in the northeast. On the west they were bordered by water, but in the south there rose numerous mountains, all shrouded in clouds and casting their imposing shadows on the valleys below. Lioriancanthe, or Liorian, was not a violent estate, and it had a well liked king and queen.
So there was a great joy on the morning when it was announced that the queen had given birth to twins. However, the villagers were warned that the queen was not well. They all presumed the royal healers would do their job well, and put it out of their minds, too busy thinking of the two new heirs. Anessen was a strong, olive skinned, black haired baby boy with piercing blue eyes. His sister, dubbed Anira, had platinum hued hair with deep brown eyes.
But shortly after their birth, the townspeople learned that the queen had died in the night, supposedly from complications. They grieved her, and the king did too, but life went on after a short period of mourning. The king refused to marry again.
Years passed, so many years that Anessen and Anira were of age. Their father, weary of the world, made the formal decision to pass on his rule to his heirs. At first, their was some confusion. Neither Anessen nor Anira wished to rule jointly, for though they loved each other as brothers and sisters were wont to do, there were some moments- honestly, many moments- when they did not see eye to eye.
For instance, Anira loved Liorian as it was- they did not interfere with nature, and it did not bother them. Anessen was eager to explore the mountains, to set sail on the seas, and perhaps even colonize. He hoped to make the peasants' lives easier, and allow them a part in the government, while Anira was in strong support of the monarchy and favored having a system of nobles.
Finally, after some convincing and some compromise, they decided to split the country, instead of the rule. It would all still fall under the umbra of Lioriancanthe, but Anira would rule the northern half, which she renamed Lienalin. Anessen took the south under his guidance, building a new palace and dubbing the area Enelya.
We happen to join the story a year later. The twins' reigns have been peaceful thus far, and remarkably cooperative. They still come together more than a few times a year to feast and collaborate ideas, discuss the current events and decide plans for the future. Neither ruler had found a significant other, so to speak, but that was not to say that their eyes weren't open. But for now, both kingdoms are busy preparing for another vist for the two... it was always an event, something to be remembered, yet not necessarily fondly... Anessen and his court have traveled more than half the distance between the two estates, without incident. Anira is halfheartedly supervising preparations.
